A comprehensive park restoration and reconstruction returned this five acre landmark urban park to its former beauty and popular use. Olin Partnership was retained by the Bryant Park Restoration Corporation and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation to plan and design improvements which would enhance the formal French landscape design, increase public seating, and provide barrier free access. A goal of the restoration, to make the park safe for all users, has been achieved through increased visibility and pedestrian circulation, and use during off-peak hours.

These goals were accomplished in part through the design of new or modified entrances, ramps, stairs, and pavements. Active concessions, public restrooms, moveable seating, and entertainment programming were other critical aspects of the overall plan. As the prime consultant, the firm steered the project through complicated public approval processes and prepared the construction documents for all landscape elements, including pavements, stone walls, classical balustrades, steps, site furnishings, and lighting. Also documented was the rehabilitation of existing vegetation, as well as the addition of new trees, hedges, ground cover, and perennial plantings.
