The Atlantic Yards Master Plan project is located in central Brooklyn, New York over an existing rail yard at the intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues. The driving force behind this new urban development is a proposed arena for the New Jersey Nets basketball team. Along with the arena are several commercial and residential buildings that span over a 24-acre site, including 7.5 acres of new public open space which will all be built over the existing rail yard. In collaboration with Forest City Ratner and Gehry Partners, Olin Partnership will design the open space to become a destination for the surrounding neighborhoods, reconnecting them across the gap left by the existing rail yard. The newly designed open space will contain elements such as lawns, gardens, recreational courts, playgrounds, cafés, and a green roof for the basketball arena.
