The A. J. Celebrezze building in Cleveland, Ohio, is
the workplace of some 4,000 people. It is located on
approximately four acres adjacent to City Hall and to
9th Street, the recently designated "Rock and Roll Boulevard"
that leads to the Hall of Fame. A fundamental goal of
the design is to create a memorable place that will
aid in the renaissance of this area of downtown. Central
to the design is the notion of an urban forest that,
together with careful modeling of the ground and layout
of paths and hard surfaces, will form a protected microclimate
while remaining open and inviting to the surrounding
urban fabric.
The design features a series of diverse well-planted
areas that encourage relaxation and reflection while
providing ample space for events. To realize the potential
of this challenging site exposed to the winds of Lake
Erie, Olin Partnership is working closely with architects,
a wind consultant, lighting consultant and an artist
to form a place that will become one of the most popular
destinations in downtown Cleveland.
