Olin Partnership is leading a team to master plan and design a new 14 acre public space located on the east and west sides of the Rippowam River. In conjunction with the creation of the Park, the US Army Corps of Engineers is conducting the Mill River Habitat Restoration Project to remove the existing Mill Dam and improve environmental conditions for fish and wildlife. This simultaneous effort will help restore the fragile river ecosystem while fostering a new riverfront experience for park visitors and the City of Stamford. Through the collaborative efforts of our landscape and urban designers, ecological consultants, lighting designers and engineering consultants, this design strives to orchestrate a balance between aesthetic excellence and functional environmental sustainability.
The Mill River Park and Greenway will include active recreation areas, playground space, walking/biking trails, a fountain/ice rink, sculpture gardens, overlook structures, event spaces, a new bridge and a rehabilitated river edge. All of these elements will bring about a vast public space for play and relaxation that establishes and engenders a sense of civic identity and community.
